Who can register to vote in Virginia?

Any United States citizen whose home is in Virginia and who will be at least 18 years old by the next general election. If you have been convicted of a felony, you must have had your rights restored by the Governor of Virginia. If you have been declared mentally incapacitated by a Circuit Court, you must have had your rights restored by the courts.

How do I register? An application may be obtained from the Voter Registration Office, or the Department of Motor Vehicles. A person may apply to register by mail by completing and returning a mail voter registration application.

How can I find out if I'm registered? You may call the Voter Registration Office in your county for confirmation.

When may I register? One may register anytime year-round except the 21 days before a general or primary election or 13 days before a special election.

How frequently do I have to register to vote? You need only to register to vote once if you remain in Greene County. If your residence changes outside of Greene County or out of the State, you must register again in your new county or state. If you have not voted for 2 Federal elections your name will purged from the system. You will have to re-register in order to vote.

What if my name changes or I change my address within Greene County? If you are a registered voter in Greene, you can make the changes on the back of your Voter card and mail into the Voter Registration Office. A new voter card will be mailed to you with the new changes. You can always complete a new voter application with the updated changes.

When is Election Day? General and Town Elections are held the Tuesday following the first Monday of November. Any Primary elections are normally held in June.

When are the polls open? The polls open at 6:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. If you are in the line when the polls close, you may still vote.

For whom may I vote in a General election? President, Senate, Representative, Local Officials also Constitutional Amendment and Bond Issues may be voted.

Where will I vote in Greene County?

The registrar will send you a voter registration card with the name of the precinct and the location of the polling place. You must always vote in the precinct where you live.

Greene County is made up of 3 districts.

Monroe District - Dyke and Swift Run

Ruckersville District - Ruckersville

Stanardsville District - Stanardsville

Voting Absentee

Who may vote absentee?

Any registered voter who expects to be out of the county on Election Day, is confined or cannot go to the polls due to physical illness or physical disability, or if you are the caregiver of a sick or disabled family member who is unable to leave home.

Request, by phone or in person, an application for absentee ballot from any registrar's office.
