The Greene County Animal Shelter operates under guidelines from the Commonwealth of Virginia to temporarily house stray or injured animals, provide for adoption of as many animals as possible and to humanely follow procedures for euthanasia for  unwanted animals. The Shelter strives to encourage, promote, and preserve responsible pet ownership and to prevent any form of cruelty to animals.

The Hours of Operation are:

Monday - Tuesday 10am - 2pm

Wednesday - Thursday Closed

Friday -   10am - 2pm

Saturday - 10am - 3pm

Sunday - Closed

Volunteers Needed!

Willing to work hard while at the shelter.
Willing to clean as directed.
Willing to get along well with people in charge, other volunteers, and the public.
Dependable: come when you say you will.

MUST NOT BE: Afraid of either dogs or cats.
Afraid of getting dirty from the animals.
Afraid of seeing injured or sick animals.

MUST:
Understand the importance of spaying and neutering and responsible animal ownership.
Understand the Shelter phone is for business use only.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Cleaning cat and dog cages
  • Scooping cat litter boxes
  • Washing food & water dishes, litter boxes, and of course puppies and dogs
  • Walking puppies and dogs
  • Treating all animals HUMANELY

Adoption Fees: $45 for dogs and puppies; $20 for cats and kittens.
Adopters are responsible for the cost of all necessary shots plus spaying or neutering.
